Kyou had been half way to the dojo when he'd realized he'd left his english books at school. So by the time he got back his mood was foul & he ws more than ready to blame anyone or everyone else for his misfortune. Hope I don't run into that damn Yuki while here. Bastard Yuki sure he'd have fun with this. Try and make me feel stupid Im sure.
And with that Kyou turned into & walked through his classroom doorway.
The mood of the room was serene. Warm and gold by the high afternoon sun & Tohru & Yuki looked beautiful sitting beside each other, there hands wrapped together as they leaned toward to kiss.
Kyou felt as though he had been hit hard in the stomach. He felt betrayed, scared, hurt. He felt angry too, but not like he ever had before. An anger without an edge, like an animal frantically crawling against the muddy sides of a ravine.
"You Fucking Bastard!" he shouted. His face was hot & his eyes were burning as he fought back tears. They broke away from each other and noticed, finally, that he was there. Tohru looked at him inquisitively, 'Kyou' she said, obviously confused.
And then he ran.
He ran because he didn't want Yuki to see him cry. He ran because he didn't know what to say to her. He ran because he didn't know what else to do.
Yuki, the thought, Yuki, she is with Yuki, kissing Yuki, Loving Yuki, of course she loves Yuki, perfect Yuki, everyone loves Yuki. He remembered he smiles, he remembered how she told him she liked him. How she made an effort for him. I am a fucking idiot, he thought. In his head he was screaming, sobbing, desperate, and alone.
"She's happy" he heard a voice to his left and turned to see Hanajima standing face bowed beside him. He looked away.
"She 's Happy. Don't ruin that for her."
"What the hell would you know about it!" he yelled turning to face her.
"What would I know." she said looking back into his eyes, "She was the most important person in my life long before she ever met you."
"You don't know anything about me so don't act like you fucking do." he responded, screaming. Images of his mother, of the funeral, Akito, school, Yuki, & Tohru flashed before him. His mothers hands, his mothers blood, & Tohru's face crying and asking him to live together with her.
"Your too loud." she said & he looked at her, startled after forgetting she was there. He looked at her and took a step back, eyes widening with the realization. Hanajima was crying.
"What happened?" she asked. "Why are you so afraid of being alone?" her voice was shaky.
An image of his mother. 'because I love you.'& blood. "Im not."
Hanajima was staring at him eyes wide, shoulders trembling. 'She looks so small, she normally so imposing.' "Why, why, do you hate yourself so much?"
'Ill kill Yuki then Ill kill myself.' 'She killed herself because of him you know.' An image of a monster reflected in water.
"I don't know what your talking about."
They stared at each other silently for a moment.
'Does she know?' Her eyes were wide and wild, her face pale. 'She knows, SHIT she knows!'
He took a ste back, turning away to run, but she reached out and grabbed his arm. "Kyou." she said, he voice quiet, soft. He stood with his back to her. "I don't understand." Slowly she started to regain her composure. "But I think....... I could.
"You......you shouldn't try to. Just forget it. None of it meant anything."
"Really." She said, and he turned toward her. "I don't believe that. I think, maybe these secrets, you need to hide them. I respect that." he exhaled, he hadn't realized he had been holding his breath. "We all.....have secrets. Secrets, & sometimes horrible memories we don't want to be reminded of."
'What does she mean?'
"You should know though. Kyou, as long a I live, you'll never be alone." and with that she walked away. Kyou stood behind her shocked. Just staring in her direction long after she had disappeared from sight.
